Dr. Ran MaoSheng

Associate Professor at Department of Social Work and Social Administration, The University of Hong Kong

 Dr. Ran is an associate professor at Department of Social Work and Social Administration, University of Hong Kong. He has medical degrees (BMed., MMed) from West China University of Medical Sciences and PhD from HKU. He was a clinical psychiatrist at Department of Psychiatry, West China Hospital, Sichuan University (1985-1999), and a full professor (Public Health) at University of Guam (USA) (2011-2013). Research interests: Social development and mental health, community mental health, epidemiology, family intervention, stigma, mental health social work, and suicide. He is an expert of National Disabilities Prevention Action Plan, China Disabled Persons’ Federation. He, founder & PI, set up Chengdu Mental Health Project (CMHP), a unique ongoing longitudinal (1994-present; population: about 150,000) mental health project in the world and a mental health research platform in China. He is PI of numerous research projects supported by WHO, National Institute of Health (NIH, USA), American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and etc. He has published over 120 academic papers and 5 books/chapters.
