Mary Jo Santo Pietro, Ph.D. is a professor in the graduate program in speech-language pathology in the School of Communication Disorders and Deafness at Kean University in Union, New Jersey, USA. She is a fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and specializes in neurogenic communication disorders in adult and geriatric populations, particularly aphasia and dementia. Dr. Santo Pietro has authored several books and research articles on communication disabilities in dementia and aphasia, and founded the Institute for Adults Living with Communication Disabilities, a highly successful therapeutic center promoting the “life participation” approach to maximizing communication and life-satisfaction in older adults.
