Dr. Hannah Shipman

Post-doctoral Fellow, School of English, The University of Hong Kong

 Dr. Hannah Shipman is a Post-doctoral Fellow at the University of Hong Kong. Originally from the UK, she completed an undergraduate degree in the Biological sciences at the University of Nottingham, trained and then worked as a genetic counsellor in Cardiff and Cambridge and undertook an interdisciplinary doctorate investigating consent to genetic testing at Cardiff University. She uses qualitative research methods to explore interaction about health and illness, particularly in contexts of novel applications of testing or intervention in clinical practice. Her current research interests span several health communication contexts in Hong Kong, including prenatal diagnosis and genetic counselling. Alongside Dr. Olga Zayts, she is investigating development of mental health services in Hong Kong, current challenges and advancement of resources for the public via the NGO Mind Hong Kong.
