Dr. Duleeka Knipe

Dr Duleeka (Dee) Knipe is an epidemiologist with an interest in suicide and self-harm in low and
middle income countries. She has a particular interest in work to reduce the stigma associated with
mental health.
 
She was funded on a Wellcome Trust doctoral fellowship to investigate the socioeconomic risk
factors for suicidal behaviour in Sri Lanka at the University of Bristol. Her current work continues her
work on the Wellcome trust funded large randomised controlled trial into the Safer Storage of
pesticides as a means of suicide prevention. She has used the data from this trial to explore important
social factors in a low and middle income setting in relation to suicide and self-harm. A specific
research interest of her is in migration health. In recognition of her important work she has recently
been awarded the International Association of Suicide Prevention early career researcher award. Her
background prior to starting her doctoral studies was in pathology and microbiology and public
health.
