BSc MSc MBBS MRCOG PGCert ILM RCOG Faculty Director for Annual perinatal Mental Health Conference

Dr Karen Joash has been a passionate voice in the provision of perinatal mental health in the UK. She has been involved in local service development and as an advisor to the London Perinatal mental health network board. She co-devised the annual Perinatal Mental Health conference as course faculty director at the RCOG.

She is also a member of the maternity mortality and morbidity board at NHS London, and is a co-author of annual reports to advise specifically on maternal suicide. She was also part of a research team at Imperial which highlighted the incidence of PTSD in those experiencing early pregnancy loss. She has also held a position as a Postgraduate Training programme Director in London and was awarded the National Trainer of the year (runner up) in 2018. She has used her expertise to develop wellbeing toolkits to support the development of doctors and staff. In addition she developed resources to inform others on the generational differences which impact on the requirements to maintain good health.

During COVID-19 she developed an antenatal education webinar to meet the needs of woman including as session on positive psychology in pregnancy, birth and beyond.
