Professor Dinesh Bhugra has published widely in the field of cultural psychiatry, sexual dysfunction and service development. He has authored/co-authored over 400 scientific papers, chapters and 37 books. Several of his books have won awards and gone into multiple editions. His most recent volume is Leadership in Psychiatry. His monograph, Mad Tales from Bollywood: Portrayal of Madness in Conventional Hindi Cinema, was published in 2006. Various books have been translated into Mandarin and Japanese. His Oxford Textbook for Public Mental Health won Book of the Year award last year.

He is the Editor of the International Journal of Social Psychiatry, and International Review of Psychiatry.

He was elected the Dean of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (2003-2008) and then it’s President (2008-2011). He was appointed Chair of the Mental Health Foundation (2011-2014) and recently appointed President of the Foundation- the third largest mental health charity in the UK. He is on the Board of Care-if, Sane and Psychiatric Research Trust charities and Deputy Non-Executive Director of Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust.
