Samson Tse has been Professor in Mental Health at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) since July 2014. He currently directs the Master of Social Sciences in Mental Health and the Co-operative Education Programme within the Department of Social Work and Social Administration. From 2020 until June 2025, he also served as HKU’s Dean of Student Affairs.

In addition to his academic and leadership roles, Professor Tse brings personal experience as a CAREGIVER, having supported loved ones through illness and GRIEF at different points in his life. These lived experiences have shaped his empathy and deepened his commitment to improving mental health services. His research focuses on strengthening support systems for individuals with severe mental illness and addiction, aiming to enhance outcomes for service users, families, and caregivers. His work centres on two key areas:1) Investigating psychosocial issues in bipolar disorder and problem gambling; 2) Advancing recovery-oriented practices, including Strengths Model Case Management and Peer Support Interventions.
