Prof Rick Kwan, Associate Dean (Programmes) and Professor at Tung Wah College’s School of Nursing, is a renowned leader in gerontological nursing. He has pioneered the use of digital health technologies—especially virtual reality and wearable devices—to enhance the health and wellbeing of older adults with cognitive frailty. Prof Kwan has published around 100 articles in top international journals and led over 40 major research projects totalling more than 8 million USD in funding. Notably, he developed award-winning virtual reality therapeutic and educational interventions, which have received multiple accolades, a patent, and significant media attention. His contributions have been recognised internationally, highlights including the Distinguished Educator in Gerontological Nursing Award (2018), Sigma’s Emerging Research/Scholarly Award (2020), Research Excellence Award by Tung Wah College (2023), induction as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (2024), and being listed on the top 2% Scientist, Standford University (2025).
