This is Professor Yim Wah Mak
Prof. Mak Yim-wah is an Associate Professor at the School of Nursing, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where she specializes in mental health resilience and psychological well-being. With over 17 years of experience providing psychosocial support to individuals with suicidal ideation, her work is dedicated to empowering individuals, families, and healthcare professionals through evidence-based interventions.
Prof. Mak’s research and clinical expertise are deeply relevant to the experience of carers. She focuses on promoting psychosocial health for families and underserved populations, with a recent emphasis on using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to improve the lives of individuals with chronic diseases and their caregivers. This work directly addresses the grief and identity shifts that accompany the caring role. A founding member and leader of the Asian Culture Special Interest Group within the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science (ACBS), she is skilled in adapting therapeutic approaches to be culturally resonant. As a seasoned counseling mentor and trainer since 2001, she has conducted extensive training for parents, teachers, and communities in managing stress and building resilience. Prof. Mak has published over 100 articles in international refereed journals, cementing her reputation as a leader in fostering a more supportive and resilient society.
