Professor Connie Chong, an Assistant Professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong’s Nethersole School of Nursing, specialises in contextual behavioural science (CBS). Her research centres on applying Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to support the mental health of caregivers for children with chronic conditions and special needs. Professor Chong has expanded her work to incorporate machine learning and natural language processing, leading to the development of Pai.ACT®. This patented, AI-driven chatbot is engineered to deliver personalised, ACT-based emotional support that emulates the interaction with a trained counsellor. The platform utilises a voice-to-text interface and a stepped-care model to provide tailored interventions, including access to professional counselling. The innovation has received international recognition, including a Gold Medal at the 2024 International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva. Through her role as founder and CEO of ACTuWISE Limited, Professor Chong translates this interdisciplinary research into practical solutions for caregiver well-being.
